My Introduction and First Roll
Hello World! This is my first post for this project, and my first roll ever shot with a 35mm film camera. When Ryan approached me about the opportunity a few months ago, I was very excited by the idea and eager to jump on board. He lent me one of his old film cameras, an Olympus, and gave me my first roll to start me out. He took the photo above!
I have been shooting with a digital SLR camera for about the past year, the Canon 7D, mainly for video, but I would also dabble in stills from time to time. There was a point where I would not leave the house without my camera on my shoulder. I shot some nice photos, but to be honest, the process was not very fulfilling.
When I started shooting film, I found myself slowing down and becoming really picky with how and when I shoot. With the DSLR I would take 5 exposure of one scene without thinking twice
The Olympus I am using has a light meter on it, which I am used to from the DLSR, but most times it wouldn't work and I felt myself ignoring it and just going with my gut. Ryan told me that opposed to digital, film is very forgiving and even with really long exposures, it is hard to blow out the highlights, at least with the type of film I am shooting, 400 ISO.
So by the end of the roll, I was very happy with the experience, and some of the photos came out pretty well. I learned a lot about the process, and even more about my craft. I am shooting with a 24mm f/2.8 which is sometimes hard to focus because it is so wide, especially in the dark. A lot of my photos came out unfocused or the focus was clearly in the wrong place. So that is something that I will have to work more on for my next roll.

I like the use of lines in your photographs. The (only) photo of Ryan with three girls is nice, smart of you to take it from such an angle creating that line of their differing heights.
